Club 15.11.2022, 15:50

FC Augsburg is excited to announce the long-established, Japanese company Mizuno as our new kit designer for the next five years, starting from the 2023/24 season. The company, founded in 1906 by brothers Rihachi and Rizo Mizuno, will create both the men’s first team as well as all women’s’ and junior teams’ kits and training gear with their unique design.

FCA supporters help with the design

Augsburg fans should also be excited to see the new design, as they are to be given the opportunity to contribute their own ideas to the design of the club’s unique products in the years to come.

“For us, the selection of Mizuno was above all driven by the opportunity to design unique kits as well as their quality. We’re really happy to have secured a long-term partner in Mizuno who want to come on the exact same path as us for years to come. Mizuno, with their high quality designs and standard of product, as well as their focused engagement with sustainability, are the perfect match for our own direction as a club. Through the kits and training gear specifically designed for us, we’ve increased our connection and identification with the fans. We’re convinced that, together with our fans, we will have lots of fun with our partner,” said FCA’s CEO, Michael Ströll.

Reigning design champions in the Bundesliga

Mizuno has a long tradition of design in football, starting with their own football boots, which have been produced since the middle of the 1950s. Since the 2022/23 season, Mizuno is now an active supplier for European football clubs again. The company produced the kits for both VfL Bochum and Italian first division side, Lazio, amongst others, and have stood out for their individual designs suited for the respective clubs. They have done so with great success, as a representative from Kicker pointed out just this September: Mizuno’s design for VfL Bochum was chosen as the best of all 18 Bundesliga clubs.

Leader in sustainability

Back in 1991, Mizuno were one of the first companies within the sporting industry that launched a global environmental initiative. Since 2021, the company has been focusing on the three core areas of environmental protection and conservation, health through sport and respect for every human as part of its sustainability strategy. It is a strategy that aligns perfectly with FCA’s own sustainability strategy “Building bridges. Move people. Protect the environment.” Moreover, Mizuno has pledged to be carbon-neutral by 2050.

“It is a great honour for us to be a part of the FC Augsburg family,” said Mark Kaiway, head of global marketing at Mizuno. “Every single one of us is over the moon at this partnership and we’re looking forward to providing quality, high-value, functional as well as modern products from Mizuno’s brand. We are able to do this thanks to our partners, Future Performance Sports (SG), as well as our current strategic manufacturers Yeh Pattanna-Tayeh and GenNex Apparel, tied to Mizuno under its umbrella corporation. We’re excited for a fantastic start to the new season, which will both build upon our joint venture with FC Augsburg as well as strengthening the connection with the fans.”

Thank you to our former partner NIKE and 11Teamsports

Our partnership with suppliers NIKE will come to a close at the end of this season after eight years working together. “We’re are eternally grateful to our current suppliers NIKE as well as 11Teamsports for their faithful partnership over these last eight years, which definitely experienced a special highlight with our participation in the Europa League,” said Michael Ströll.
