Mert Kömür extends contract with FCA
Homegrown midfielder signs deal until 2029
Following on from Noahkai Banks’ contract extension, FC Augsburg have agreed a long-term deal with another homegrown talent. Mert Kömür, who joined the Paul Renz Academy in the summer of 2019, will spend another four years in the FCA shirt. The 19-year-old’s contract has been extended until 30th June 2029.
Kömür started training with the first team at the age of just 16, before making his Bundesliga debut at 18 in April 2024. The attacking midfielder was named in the starting eleven for the first time on the final day of the 2023/24 season against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and marked this milestone with a goal. The Germany U20 international has now made a total of 24 Bundesliga appearances, scoring three times.
“Mert Kömür has made the jump to senior football at FCA, and has earned a place in the team thanks to his commitment and application. He was already able to show his qualities last season, and we’re certain that we’ll continue to enjoy watching Mert over the coming years. We’re proud to have been able to tie him down to FC Augsburg on a long-term basis. He embodies our philosophy and shows the pathway young players have here,” said FCA CEO Michael Ströll.
“I’m very pleased to be continuing my journey with FC Augsburg. I’ve been able to fulfil my childhood dream of playing in the Bundesliga here. On the way to achieving that, I picked up a lot of valuable experiences. I’m highly motivated to take the next steps and earn myself a regular place in the Bundesliga line-up. There’s still a lot I want to achieve together with this team,” said Mert Kömür.
