FC Augsburg full back Philipp Max is highly motivated for his team’s trip to SC Freiburg on Saturday, 23rd February (15:30 CET). After providing two assists in last week’s Bavarian Derby against FC Bayern München, Max is showing signs of good form. FC Augsburg have fond memories of their last meeting with SC Freiburg. Earlier this season, FCA secured a deserved 4-1 home win against the Black Forest club. Now, Manuel Baum’s side will travel down to south-west Germany to take on Freiburg. The FCA head coach is expecting a tough contest between two even sides. “Freiburg are a team that work hard and always give 100%, meaning they will make it difficult for us on Saturday. You can never be sure with Freiburg what they will bring and what formation they will use. They sometimes play with a back three in defence, sometimes a back four. From our perspective, we have to be flexible and take the match to Freiburg.” Philipp Max is also expecting the match to be exciting and tight. “I’m very excited for the match. It will be a tightly contested match and we have the chance to close the gap on Freiburg if we secure all three points. This will be fun to watch and play in.” Manuel Baum described his full-back as a corner stone of the Augsburg squad. “It is super when a player is so flexible. Philipp started against Bayern on the left wing and provided an assist straight away for our opening goal. He linked up well with Kostas Stafylidis and then provided the assist for the second goal too. He certainly enhances our team.” Only focused on our next opponents Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Freiburg, Baum isn’t looking further beyond this weekend. “I am analyzing our opponents around the clock to create a game plan for Saturday. You cannot prepare for everything in football. Consequently, we have to work together and help each other. The aim is securing all three points and we are not interested in what the other teams do this weekend.”
