Marco Richter and Kevin Danso in provisional U21 European Championship squads
Two FC Augsburg players are set to feature at this summer’s U21 European Championships in Italy and San Marino. FCA attacker Marco Richter has been named in Stefan Kuntz’s provisional squad to represent Germany at the tournament. Meanwhile, Fuggerstädter centre-back Kevin Danso has been included in Austria’s squad for next month’s tournament.
Both players have come through the FC Augsburg youth ranks to represent the club in the Bundesliga. Marco Richter made 24 league appearances this season, scoring four goals and six assists. The Germany U21s international enjoyed a strong end to the season, securing a brace in consecutive matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart. Kevin Danso made 18 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring once and providing an assist. “We’re delighted that Marco and Kevin have both been named in their respective provisional squads. We wish them all the best of luck and hope both will feature in the final squads for the European Championships,” said FC Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter. “I’m delighted to have been named in the provisional squad for the tournament. I would now like to give everything possible to secure a place in the final squad. I also hope to feature at the tournament in Italy and San Marino,” said an excited Marco Richter regarding his inclusion in the Germany U21s squad.
Potential clash between Augsburg teammates
“It is always a privilege to be able to represent your country,” said Kevin Danso, who was also named in the senior Austria squad for their upcoming European qualifiers. “I’m delighted to be included for the task at hand, especially of course for a potential match against Marco and Germany!” Germany U21s will travel to South Tyrol for a pre-tournament training camp from 2nd-11th June 2010. The defending champions will begin their European Championship campaign against Denmark in Udine (17th June. 21:00 CEST) before facing Serbia in Trieste (20th June. 21:00 CEST). Richter and Germany will conclude the group stage against Austria in Udine (23rd June. 21:00 CEST), where Danso could face his Augsburg teammates. The three group winners and the best placed runner up will qualify for the semi-finals.
