FC Augsburg spent nine days in Scheffau for their pre-season training camp, presented by Flow Sports. As well as a number of intense training sessions, FCA also had two friendlies. The Fuggerstädter returned home on Monday with tired legs, but satisfied after some hard work.

“We worked really hard and grew close together as a group,” summed up coach Enrico Maaßen. 33 players were in Austria, however Henri Koudossou, Fabio Gruber and Mahmut Kücüksahin all left early on Wednesday to join up with the U23s for the start of their new season. Academy talent Mert Kömür got the chance to train with the first team for the rest of the week in their place.

The squad got valuable minutes in friendlies against Dynamo České Budějovice (1-0 defeat) and Schalke (1-1), whilst Ermedin Demirović was able to make his first appearance for FCA too. Maaßen is also pleased that aside from Dorsch, who suffered a thigh knock, no players have come away with notable injuries. Previously injured Ruben Vargas and Reece Oxford were both able to make good progress towards their comebacks during the training camp, though they will still need some more time.

“We have to keep improving in all areas,” demanded Maaßen. The new coach now wants to place his focus on the team’s finishing. FCA have two weeks still to prepare for the first round of the DFB-Pokal at TuS Blau-Weiß Lohne on Sunday, 31st July (15:30 CEST). The final friendly before that cup tie is on Saturday, 23rd July (15:30 CEST) at the WWK Arena against Stade Rennais.
