FC Augsburg have extended the contract of homegrown talent Lukas Petkov ahead of time. The 22-year-old’s initial contract was set to run until the summer of 2024, but the forward will now be with the club until 30th June 2026. In order to get some more game time under his belt, Petkov will spend the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at 2. Bundesliga side SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

Lukas Petkov, who has been with the Fuggerstädter since the age of eight, has made eight competitive appearances for Augsburg so far this season. He has also built on the impressive form he showed last term during his loan spell at third division side SC Verl, when he scored eleven goals and picked up five assists in 37 appearances.

“I am delighted that FCA have continued to back me and that I’ve been able to extend my contract ahead of time. I have now got the chance to prove myself in the 2. Bundesliga with Fürth and I can return to FCA even stronger in the summer,” explained Petkov.

“Lukas Petkov is a true homegrown talent and he has already shown this season that he has the ability to establish himself in the Bundesliga over the coming years. The loan move to Fürth will give him an extra boost, as he will be able to pick up more important game time. We wish him all the best at Greuther and we will remain in close contact over the coming months,” said chief executive Stefan Reuter.
