The first international break of the season was also the last opportunity for teams to get match practice before the World Cup in Qatar. Seven Augsburg players were named in international sides, including a debutant.
Ruben Vargas celebrated two wins with Switzerland. After a convincing 2-1 win in Spain, they then beat the Czech Republic by the same scoreline. Vargas once again started the match, coming off in the 79th minute. Having won three games in succession, Switzerland finished third in Group 2 of Nations League A, behind Spain and Portugal.

Ermedin Demirović, who scored his first international goal in 1-0 win against Montenegro, was defeated 4-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday by Romania. The Augsburg forward played the full 90 minutes – but Bosnia’s promotion to the A League of UNL was confirmed before the game regardless.

Fredrik Jensen was an unused substitute for Finland as they beat Montenegro 2-0, as was Carlos Gruezo as Ecuador and Japan played out a goalless draw in Düsseldorf. Robert Gumny and Poland took a 1-0 victory in Wales, Gumny was substituted off in the 90th minute.

Bauer and Germany U21 defeated in Sheffield

FCA had two representatives in Germany’s youth sides, in Maximilian Bauer and Aaron Zehnter. The U21s lost 1-0 to France, before being defeated 3-1 in a tough game against England. In Sheffield, Malick Thiaw was substituted on in the 73rd minute, making it his 5th appearance for Germany U21.

Zehnter, on the other hand, made his debut for the Germany U19 side. The FCA youngster sat on the bench as his team beat Armenia and Belarus 5-0 and 5-1 respectively. Their 1-0 win in Slovakia, however saw Zehnter (who previously had six appearances for the U18s) come on in the 89th minute. Having collected the maximum possible nine points this international break, Guido Streichsbier’s team sit at the top of the Euro U19 qualifying group.
