Koo and Ji selected for South Korea Asia Cup squad.
FCA players Ja-Cheol Koo and Dong-Won Ji have both been selected to represent South Korea at the 2019 Asia Cup. The tournament begins on the 5th January and ends on the 1st February and will take place in the UAE.
Both South Koreans will therefore miss the preparation for the second half of the season. As they will be joining up with Paulo Bento’s squad, the two South Koreans will be unavailable for the following games: Fortuna Düsseldorf (H) (Saturday 19th January, 15:30 CET), Borussia Mönchengladbach (A) (Saturday 26th January, 15:30 CET) and Mainz (H) (Sunday 3rd February, 15:30 CET).
South Korea will play against the Philippines (7th January), Kirgizstan (11th January) as well as China (16th January). The final of the Asia Cup will be played on the 1st February in Abu Dhabi. Recently the South Koreans got to the final of the Asia Cup but fell to a 2-1 defeat against Australia in 2015. They have not won it since 1960. Alongside Koo and Ji will be 2. Bundesliga player Hee-Chan Hwan (HSV), Jae-Sung Lee (Holstein Kiel) and Chung-Yong Lee (VfL Bochum).
