FC Augsburg celebrated a 2-0 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in what was interim head coach Manuel Baum’s first match in charge. Read on for all the post-match reaction from the WWK-Arena!
Keven Schlotterbeck: “We tried to show the full potential that we have as a team today, which we managed to do. We wanted to dictate the pace from the start and be courageous in our play. This was an extremely important win for us and one we fully deserved based on our performance. Every single player did their part and we supported each other - in the end, it was a real team performance that we can continue to build on.”
Anton Kade: “We really wanted to win. Our game plan wasn’t anything complicated: make lots of deep runs, stay positive, win our duels and excite the fans. I saw all the lights around the stadium in the 80th minute – the atmosphere today was fantastic and helped spur us on. The role I took on in attack worked well and it makes me hungry for more. I was able to get on the end of a great cross from Dimi on my goal; we’ve got a great connection with each other. Beating Leverkusen isn’t something that happens often, so we can really enjoy today’s victory.”
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “It was a real challenge to prepare ourselves for Leverkusen, as they are a top team. You could tell today that the lads were extremely connected to each other, the atmosphere in the stadium and the fans. There was a real flow to be seen and enjoyed. There were a couple of moments where we were a bit lucky, but conversely, we also hit the crossbar once. I’m delighted for the players and for the club. We now face Frankfurt next, where we also want to take home all three points.”
Kasper Hjulmand (Bayer 04 Leverkusen head coach): “We’re obviously not satisfied with how we performed – it just wasn’t enough. We didn’t play with the right mindset. We have to be able to play better, which is why we’re disappointed today. Now, we have to manage to quickly sort ourselves out, because we have two big games coming up next week.”
