Jensen: “We’ve shown what we’re capable of”

First Team 18.01.2020, 17:37

Fredik Jensen grew into a key part of the team towards the end of the first half of the season. The 22-year-old speaks ahead of the start of the Rückrunde against Borussia Dortmund about qualifying for the EUROS with his country, his difficult start at Augsburg and the game against BVB.

Finland qualified for the EUROS for the first time in their history back in November.
It’s a massive thing for our country and for all of our players. We’re so proud to have finally achieved this and to represent our nation in a major competition. We will play our matches in Copenhagen and St. Petersburg so there will be a lot of Finnish fans there. Our goal is clear: To qualify past the group stages, even if we have quite a difficult group.

You’re now into your second season at FCA. However, do you feel like you’ve now fully announced yourself at the club?
I arrived much earlier but, as you’ve said, injuries kept holding me back at the start. That’s just how it is; you need to come out stronger and I think I’ve done that really well. I’m not one to sit around feeling sorry for myself.

It’s always special to play against big teams like this.

You’ve really shown your potential over the last few games before the winter break.
I finally had a run of games to show what I can do. The team has been on a great run recently and played some really good football. Everything has started to come together and that gives us all a lot of confidence.

The Bundesliga returns with a bang as Borussia Dortmund travel to the WWK ARENA. A win would take you just four points behind Lucien Favre’s side.
That just shows you anything is possible in sport when you play well as a team. Coming up against big teams such as Dortmund is always particularly special, for both the fans and for the players. So we’re making sure that we go into the match with the right attitude. We showed what we were capable of in the first half of the season, even against the top teams.
