Hitz helps Switzerland break record
FCA goalkeeper Marwin Hitz was in the Swiss national team as they broke a new record. Their 1-0 win over Belarus was Switzerland’s sixth win in a row – good enough to beat their previous record of five wins on the trot. Premier League side Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri scored the game’s decisive goal with a wonderful goal from around 30 metres out. BVB goalkeeper Roman Bürki played the full 90 minutes in net for Switzerland, with Marwin Hitz and Yann Sommer looking on from the bench.
The friendly against Belarus served as a test for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands in a week (Friday, 9th June, 20:45 CEST). Switzerland played in front of a home crowd of around 10,000 fans in Neuenburg. Switzerland top Group B at the moment with an unblemished record of 15 points from five games, and enjoy a three point lead over European champions Portugal.
