Reaction to the 2-1 defeat in Berlin
FC Augsburg lost 2-1 to Hertha BSC despite taking an early lead. “I can’t explain why we were so passive when we were 1-0 up,” lamented head coach Heiko Herrlich after the game. Read all the reaction to the defeat in the capital.men zur Niederlage bei der Alten Dame.
Rafał Gikiewicz: “We gifted it to Hertha for the second time this season. The first half was fine but we came out after the break and could have conceded right away. That can’t happen. We have to be honest and say that we didn’t have enough possession. We made far too many mistakes. Gladbach come to Augsburg on Friday so we have to pick ourselves up and go again.”
Florian Niederlechner: “The defeat hurts and was completely unnecessary. When you go ahead so early against a team with no confidence, you simply have to make more of the situation. We are disappointed because we were too passive on the whole. We missed a big chance here but we’ll keep our heads up. We have the chance to get back to winning ways against Gladbach."
Rani Khedira: “This is really annoying because we were in control after taking the lead. It was too little, though. We didn’t do enough, we were too far away from the opposition players. The penalty was unnecessary, but you can’t be too hard on a young player. He will learn from this."
Heiko Herrlich: “It’s really, really annoying that we’re leaving here with nothing. The win was on for a long time and towards the end we had to take a point to maintain the gap between us and our direct rivals. I can’t explain why we were so passive when we were 1-0 up. We didn’t do enough to cause any problems for Hertha in the second half. We weren’t calm enough in possession and we lost the ball too quickly. We defended poorly for their goals, although we were actually quite well organised for the most part. Giving away the penalty was bad game management but we can’t complain about the fact that they scored.”
