Reaction to defeat against 1. FC Köln
FC Augsburg dropped an important three points against 1. FC Köln in the battle against relegation. "It was a disastrous first half," said head coach Heiko Herrlich. Read the reaction to the game here.
Rafał Gikiewicz: "We've lost a very important game at home. In the first 45 minutes, we weren't close enough to them. For Köln it was like a training drill. In the second half we risked more, pushed forward more, but in the end, it was one goal too little. Therefore, we've dropped important points. In a relegation battle, if you're not on the pitch from the very first minute, you lose games like that. We have to stick together now; in Stuttgart, we can't play worse than the first half today.“
André Hahn: "The first half was terrible. We completely deservedly to be 3-0 behind at the break. We regrouped at half time and dug in, but after a first half like that, it wasn't enough in the end. We really need to be picking up points over the next three games.“
Ruben Vargas: "I don't know what was wrong with us in the first half. During the break we pulled ourselves together, we had nothing more to lose and wanted to show a better side to ourselves. After that, we played the way we had expected to beforehand. Now the only thing worth doing is to look ahead, build on the second half and do everything better against Stuttgart.“
Daniel Caligiuri: "I can't explain the two halves. We just weren't at it at all in the first half. After the break, we obviously needed to take risks and that's what we did. In the end, though, it was deservedly not enough for anything more than a defeat.“
Heiko Herrlich: "It was a disastrous first half, and so the game was almost already over. We were hardly involved in any actions of our own, we had little possession and went into hardly any duels. That's unacceptable, especially at home. The reaction in the second half was good and the right one. We had the chances to make it 3-3, and the point could have done us good. It's important that we don't have another performance like our first half in the upcoming games.“
Friedhelm Funkel: "Our performance in the first half was outstanding and we were deservedly 3-0 up. Augsburg showed a great reaction in the second half and we were very lucky in the end. We cleared one off the line and another header went just wide. But the team threw everything in and I'm very happy with the win.“
