First Team 11.10.2021, 11:30

Five FCA first-team players featured for their national team during the weekend: Robert Gumny, Michael Gregoritsch and Lasse Günther were all on the winning side, whilst Carlos Gruezo and Fredrik Jensen suffered defeats on international duty.

Robert Gumny played the full 90 as Poland convincingly beat San Marino 5-0 thanks to goals from Karol Świderski (10’), Cristian Brolli (20’, OG), Tomasz Kędziora (50’), Adam Buksa (84’) and Hertha BSC’s Krzysztof Piątek (91’). The win leaves Poland in third place in their qualifying group table and their next test is against Albania on Tuesday 12th October (20:45 CEST).

Carlos Gruezo started Ecuador’s 2-1 defeat against Venezuela and played 89 minutes of the fixture. Enner Valencia opened the scoring for Ecuador from the penalty spot (37’) but goals from Darwin Machís (46’) and Eduard Bello (64’) turned the game around for Venezuela in the second half. “La Tri” also find themselves in third place in their qualifying group and next face Colombia on Thursday 14th October (23:00 CEST).

Michael Gregoritsch was substituted on in the 88th minute of Austria’s 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands courtesy of goals from RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer (26’) and Marcel Sabitzer of FC Bayern (48’). Austria have ten points and are in fourth place in their qualifying group, and their second match of the international break is against Denmark on Tuesday 12th October (20:45 CEST).

Fredrik Jensen and the Finnish national team lost 2-1 in World Cup qualifying against Ukraine. Jensen was an unused substitute. Andriy Yarmolenko scored the opener for the Ukraine (4’), before Teemu Pukki netted to level things in the 29th minute. However, Roman Yaremtschuk scored what turned out to be the winner after 34 minutes. Finland now find themselves in fourth place in the group and take on Kazakhstan on Tuesday 12th October (16:00 CEST).

Lasse Günther and the Germany U19s have won twice in two matches at the Four-Nations-Tournament. They beat the Portuguese youth side 2-1, with Günther coming on in the 80th minute. Germany went ahead in the 16th minute after a goal from Ben Bobzien, a lead that was later doubled by Mesut Kesik (53’). The Portuguese managed to get one back but it wasn’t to be decisive (74’). The Germany side are still unbeaten at the top of the table and will play the Netherlands U19s on Tuesday 12th October in the last game of the tournament.
