Gregoritsch: “Either team could have won”
The reaction to the draw in Hamburg
FC Augsburg came away with a point following their trip north to Hamburg on matchday 28 of the Bundesliga. Despite taking the lead and playing 25 minutes from ten men, FCA were unable to claim the victory. Read all the post-match reaction here.
Marius Wolf: “We were far too frantic towards the end. That wasn’t necessary. We were in control at first, but then we lost our way. That’s the lesson we’re taking from this game. As for that challenge on me, I have to say that we’ve conceded penalties for a lot less this season. HSV could have had no complaints. We now have to accept the decision and keep going.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “That was an enjoyable game. Both teams were strong in the challenge and created goalscoring chances. In the end, either team could have won the match. The referee made the right call. At first, I also thought it would be a free kick. Then, the referee asked me if I had landed on him. I thought for a moment that it might still have been a free kick but, in the end, a dropped ball was the correct decision.”
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “Particularly in the first half, we played well and had a lot of good moments on the counterattack. Then, though, a lot of mistakes crept into our game. HSV started the better in the second half and still looked to get a result with ten men. We also allowed the opponents back into the game. That’s the danger when you have a man advantage. We have to blame ourselves for our lack of composure and the chaos in the final 15 minutes.”
Merlin Polzin (Hamburger SV head coach): “We were too careless in possession. We weren’t able to make runs forward and create danger. Despite going behind, that did improve. We responded brilliantly after half time. That was fantastic. We managed to flip the switch and get a deserved equaliser. We even had another chance after that. Obviously, we didn’t do ourselves any favours with the red card. We struggled at times, but we still managed to stay in control. It’s disappointing that we didn’t get more out of the game in the end, but we can’t be too greedy against a team like Augsburg. We’ll take the point and move on.”
