Gouweleeuw: “We are difficult opponents for any team to face!”

First Team 11.10.2018, 16:12
Dutchman Jeffrey Gouweleeuw is a key part of the FC Augsburg defence that has made a promising start to the season. The international break has given the 27 year old the opportunity to overcome a minor setback suffered in recent days and he now looks ahead to FCA’s next match: a home clash with RB Leipzig. FCA’s stalwart in defence, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, couldn’t take part in the last two training sessions. “I suffered a knock when I had my chance to score in Dortmund and consequently I couldn’t participate in training over the last two days. However, I have time to recover over the international break and to return to full fitness ahead of our home match with Leipzig.” Gouweleeuw returned to full squad training on Tuesday morning. So far this season, despite some very good performances, FCA have unfortunately conceded some goals that have cost the club multiple points. Regarding this, Gouweleeuw says: “if you consider each individual goal we have conceded, you will see that many of the goals have come from unfortunate events or individual mistakes. It happens and there is nothing you can do to prevent. We defend aggressively down the middle and that is sometimes risky. We want to improve across each match.” Looking ahead to our next home match against RB Leipzig, Gouweleeuw says that “we are difficult opponents for any team to face. We want to retain this and try to take something out of each match regardless of who the opponents are. This is the case for the Leipzig match.” After the international break, FC Augsburg return to Bundesliga action at home to RB Leipzig on our retro matchday on Saturday, 20th October (15:30 CEST).
