Gouweleeuw: "Our strength at home gives us confidence"

First Team 26.02.2020, 11:01

FCA central defender Jeffrey Gouweleeuw completed his 100th competitive game for Augsburg in the 2-0 loss against Leverkusen last time out, and the player and his side are back in action against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday 29th February (15:30 CET).  In their last home game against Gladbach, Augsburg took a point following a 1-1 draw.

Even though the match against Bayer Leverkusen didn’t go well last time, Gouweleeuw is quick to praise the form of FCA’s opponents, instead of citing the negative statistics from the game, saying: “Leverkusen are playing well at the moment. They play very good football, and make it hard to win against them. But we naturally want to eventually take points off them in the future.”

However, the FCA defender will remember his 100th game well, saying: “It is something very special. When I look back on something like this after my career is over, it will make me proud.”

FCA will keep the points in Augsburg

After the loss in Leverkusen, Ausgburg face another tough opponent in the form of Gladbach, who are currently in the European spots in the table. After the heavy 5-1 loss in the Hinrunde, Martin Schmidt’s side will assuredly be eager to settle the score at the WWK Arena. Gouweleeuw also has courage in FCA’s current home form, as he stated: “Gladbach are a good opponent who are playing close to the top of the table. This season, we’ve been really strong at home, and that gives us confidence.” In front of the home crowd, it’s very possible that FCA will put on a fine display against the Foals. Augsburg are still undefeated against Mönchengladbach at home in the Bundesliga (three wins, five draws).
