Giannoulis: “Learn from our mistakes”
Before the game against Wolfsburg
FC Augsburg will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday, 4th October (15:30 CEST), as they take on VfL Wolfsburg at the WWK ARENA. After the team’s open training session on Tuesday, we spoke to Dimitris Giannoulis, who gave us his thoughts on...
... his return from injury: “I’m glad to be back on the pitch and I feel healthy. I haven’t been at 100% lately, but I will be within the next few days. I’m really looking forward to the next game and the chance to get more minutes in the tank.”
... the game in Heidenheim: “Last game wasn’t great – we came away empty handed and the performance was not good enough. We now need to work hard and put all our focus on the next game against Wolfsburg. I’m confident we can learn from our mistakes and put in a better performance this time.”
... this weekend’s opponents: “Wolfsburg are a great side with fantastic players. Both teams want to win points, which means we need to concentrate and play according to our game plan.”
... the role of the fans: “Our fans are always giving us that little extra push we need. Unfortunately we haven’t managed to win a game in front of the home crowd yet this season – now is the time to do just that.”
... his own role this season: “I make a lot of runs into the opposition half, which I enjoy doing, as it lets me play a more attacking role. I still have a lot of defensive duties and must always be aware. As a whole I really enjoy my role.”
... the upcoming international break: “To play for Greece is always a great feeling and gives me a lot of pride. We have two tough games against Scotland and Denmark coming up, but I’m optimistic.”
... his dream of getting Greece to the World Cup: “World Cup qualification is a big goal of ours, as it’s been a long time since we took part in one. If we get points out of these two games, we’ll be in a good position. It’s going to be difficult, but we need to stay strong and believe in ourselves.”
