Fredrik Jensen’s Finland secure Nations League promotion
Finland have been promoted into League B of the UEFA Nations League. Fredrik Jensen came off the bench as his national team fell to a 1-0 defeat in Greece last night. However, due to Finland’s superior head-to-head record, the Scandiavians can celebrate promotion to the second tier of the Nations League.
Greece 1-0 Finland
After securing twelve points from their opening four matches, Finland went into their fifth Nations League match without dropping a single point. However, it was hosts Greece who took the lead after 25 minutes after a Albin Granlund own goal. FC Augsburg youngster Fredrik Jensen came on for the final sixteen minutes but was unable to help his side find an equaliser. Greece did cut Finland’s lead at the top of the group to three points but Finland still win the group courtesy of their superior head-to-head record. Finland defeated Greece 2-0 at home in Tampere.
Austria 0-0 Bosnia & Herzegovina
Austria needed a victory at home to Bosnia-Herzegovina to keep their hopes of League A promotion alive. FCA central defender Martin Hinteregger started the match as the hosts dominated proceedings but were not able to find a breakthrough. FCA teammate Michael Gregoritsch came off the bench to help try and find that crucial goal but it remained goalless in the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna. Austria will remain in League B for the next edition of the Nations League.

Germany U20s have battled to a 3-3 draw against Italy U20s in Sassuolo. FCA’s Felix Götze was in the starting lineup but had to be withdrawn after just six minutes as a precaution for concussion. Both teams put on an attacking spectacle as Davide Frattesi gave the hosts an 11th minute lead. Germany then turned the match in their favour before half-time with two quick goals from Ahmet Gürleyen (36’) and Yari Otto (38’). Gianluca Scamacca equalised for Italy at the start of the second half before Lennart Czyborra restored Germany’s lead (50’). With just six minutes to go, Andrea Pinamonti ensured Italy would enjoy an even share of the spoils as he secured a 3-3 draw for the hosts.
