Frederik Winther returns to Denmark on loan

22-year-old after more game time

First Team 31.01.2023, 22:00

Danish centre-back Frederik Winther has made just the one Bundesliga appearances for FCA so far this season, featuring in the 3-2 defeat away at 1. FC Köln. With defensive all-rounder Renato Veiga having joined the club on deadline day, FC Augsburg have agreed to loan Winther to Brøndby IF in his native Denmark until the end of the season to allow him to get more game time.

“I want to be on the pitch and I wasn’t able to do that as much as I would have liked in the first half of the season. Going back home is the right move for me, so that I can get as many minutes as possible at Brøndby,” explained the 22-year-old.

“We’re confident that this loan move to Brøndby will do Frederik Winther good. He will be working under the man who have him his debut for the Denmark U21s in Jesper Sørensen. That will help him integrate into the team quickly. We will Frederik all the best so that he comes back to Augsburg with lots of minutes under his belt,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.
