Fellhauer: "We’ll fight as hard as we can”

Interview before trip to Munich

First Team 21.01.2026, 18:00

Robin Fellhauer has been an ever-present for FC Augsburg this season. The summer signing, who celebrated his 28th birthday on Wednesday, has featured in all 18 Bundesliga matches so far. Ahead of the clash with FC Bayern, he spoke about …

…the recent points return: “It’s definitely not been enough when you look at the games. We deserved to lose against Borussia Mönchengladbach, against Union Berlin we shouldn’t be conceding when we’re a man up, and against SC Freiburg we should have seen the game out after going 2-0 up. When we’re in front, we can’t make it so easy for the opposition to score.”

…the aims for the second half of the season: “Now we have to pick up far more points than we did in the first half of the campaign. I’m confident we can do that. You could see an improvement from game to game. We fought harder, we were more united as a team and we showed more bite. If we keep going like this, the points will come. After the Gladbach game, we talked a lot – including among ourselves as players.”

…the Bayern game: “Bayern are by far the best team in Germany. The way they’re performing at the moment is incredible – it’s great to watch. No team enjoys going to Munich. Still, we’re going there with the aim of winning the game. That’s perhaps a bit ambitious, but anything can happen in football. We’ll fight as hard as we can, playing with extreme compactness and huge determination. We’ll work for 90 minutes and defend our goal with everything we’ve got.”

… the narrow defeat in the reverse fixture: “In the first game we put up a good fight and didn’t collapse after going behind – we worked our way back into it. With a bit of luck, a draw might even have been possible. We want to approach this weekend with the same mindset. I’ve put the collision from that game behind me.”

…his own situation: “I’m happy that things are going so well for me personally and that I’m on the pitch in every game. It’s becoming more and more enjoyable, things are clicking better and better, and I feel comfortable out there. The step from the second division to the Bundesliga is a huge one.”

…the February schedule: “February will be a tough and important month – we know we have to pick up points. For now, though, the focus is entirely on Bayern.”
