Fellhauer: “Leipzig were brutal”
Reactions after the defeat against Leipzig
On Matchday 8 of the Bundesliga, FC Augsburg suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat at home to RB Leipzig. Here are the post-match reactions:
Fabian Rieder: “Such a heavy defeat obviously hurts. We wanted to show our fans — who supported us for 90 minutes — something very different in our own stadium. Leipzig were extremely efficient and scored from practically every chance they had. It wasn’t all bad, we still believe in where we’re heading, but we all have to improve to get back on track. On Tuesday, we’ll have our next opportunity to do that.”
Robin Fellhauer: “It was a day to forget. Leipzig were brutal, took advantage of every little mistake and fully deserved the win. The mood in the dressing room is, of course, rough right now — we’re conceding too many goals. After the match, we had a long exchange with the fans and can understand their disappointment — we’re disappointed too. We’ll analyse the game and then look forward. In three days, we want to show something different.”
Sandro Wagner: “We had high ambitions and actually started the game well. However, our finishing wasn’t sharp or good enough — that’s on us. Defensively, we didn’t do well. Against a team with such individual quality as Leipzig, you get punished ruthlessly for that. Today we got a real slap in the face, but that’s part of our development. The important thing is to draw the right conclusions from it.”
Ole Werner (RB Leipzig head coach): “I’m very satisfied with the result. The game was balanced up until the 3–0. We knew that Augsburg would press high and play aggressively. The key was to exploit the space in behind, and we managed to do that very effectively. We were already leading clearly at halftime — the game was almost decided by then. In the second half, we kept calm, didn’t allow much and remained professional. That gives us a boost for the upcoming matches.”
