FCA strengthens defence through Arthur Chaves
Loan deal with buy option included
FC Augsburg have bolstered their defensive roster by signing centre-back Arthur Chaves on loan from Bundesliga rivals TSG Hoffenheim until the end of the season. The agreement includes an option to make the move permanent in the summer. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose further details of the deal.
Chaves, who was born in Brazil and also has German roots through his mother, made the switch to the Bundesliga in August 2024 from Portuguese side Académico Viseu. The 24-year-old made 39 competitive appearances for Hoffenheim, scoring twice, including featuring in six matches in the Europa League. Standing at 6’ 1”, the defender has also earned six caps for the Brazil U23 national team and won a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games.
Strong in the tackle and defensively versatile
“With the injury-related absences of Chrislain Matsima and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, we were determined to strengthen our defensive options,” said FCA sporting director Benni Weber. “In Arthur Chaves, we are bringing in a strong, combative centre-back whose profile fits perfectly here. He is capable of playing in all three positions across the backline, knows the Bundesliga well, and can help us immediately.”
“I’m very excited about the challenge at FCA,” said Arthur Chaves. “My aim is to settle into the team as quickly as possible. I want to take responsibility both on and off the pitch and contribute to a successful second half of the season.” Arthur Chaves will wear the number 34 shirt for FC Augsburg.
