FCA draw 2-2 against Hertha BSC

Friendly during the international break

First Team 02.10.2026, 15:06

FC Augsburg gave up a 2-0 lead in today's friendly against Hertha BSC, as the match finished in a 2-2 draw. Luca Schuler struck twice for the visitors in the second half, after Rodrigo Ribeiro and Alexis Claude-Maurice had gotten on the scoresheet for FCA.

FCA head coach Manuel Baum named four academy players to his matchday squad in Milo Adleff, Ben Exner, Amar Selimovic and Tobias Jäger. The match took place behind closed doors due to organisational reasons, with only FCA academy players from the U9 to U12 age groups in attendance. The players had all recently taken part in the club's 'Profis x FCAcademy' programme, in which the youngsters developed a training session together with first-team players who were later responsible for leading the drills.

Hertha, who currently top the Bundesliga 2 standings, got off to a strong start at the Paul-Renz-Akademie. The first real chance of the afternoon belonged to the hosts, however, as Alexis Claude-Maurice broke down the left wing and looked to deliver a cross. The visitors were able to clear his effort away from danger just in time (10'). FCA were able to see more of the ball in the minutes that followed, finding ways past Hertha's high press and generating a threat from out wide.

Ribeiro opens the scoring for FCA

The visitors then enjoyed a strong spell of possession which saw Juma Bah keep Josip Brekalo from getting off a short, shortly before Nediljko Labrović had to parry a long-range effort. Mid-way through the first half, Augsburg enjoyed a host of good chances and were able to finish one to open the scoring. Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck managed to parry the initial shot from Claude-Maurice, with the rebound falling to Rodrigo Ribeiro. The striker reacted quickly, poking the ball past the 'keeper to open the scoring (35'). A minute later, Hertha came within inches of equalising, as Brekalo's shot hit the post.

Augsburg carried their momentum from the first half with them into the second, with Robin Fellhauer unable to beat substitute Tim Goller shortly after the restart. The visitors were then denied by the post for the second time, as Kevin Sessa struck the woodwork (54'). Augsburg were able to retain possession in the moments that followed and doubled their lead in the 61st minute, as Claude-Maurice placed the ball in at the far post to make it 2-0.

Schuler strikes twice in the second half

Just six minutes later, Hertha were able to cut the deficit. Schuler found himself with plenty of time and space inside the box, with his shot taking a deflection and sailing past Labrović. The Berliners saw more of the ball from that moment on, with Schuler netting his second of the afternoon to draw level in the 75th minute.

Augsburg were unlucky to not retake the lead in the 79th minute as Adleff's shot struck the crossbar. Shortly after, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw was able to get off an unmarked shot following a corner, but his effort was straight at the goalkeeper. In the end, there was nothing more to separate the sides as the match finished 2-2.

FCA will be back in action after the international break when they welcome FC Bayern München to the WWK ARENA on Saturday, 10th October at 15:30 CEST.
