FCA extend with Marcel Lubik and loan him to Górnik Zabrze
Contract until 2028
FC Augsburg have agreed an early contract extension with homegrown goalkeeper Marcel Lubik. The 21-year-old, whose previous deal was set to expire in summer 2026, has committed to the club until 30th June 2028. However, he won’t be wearing the FCA shirt next season, as he will be going out on loan to Polish top-tier side Górnik Zabrze.
Lubik, who joined the FC Augsburg youth academy in 2018, has made 47 appearances for the club’s U23s in the Regionalliga Bayern. He has also trained regularly with the senior squad and featured in the Bundesliga matchday squad on three occasions. Last season, he already gained first-team experience in his birth country Poland, making 34 appearances for second-division side GKS Tychy, where he even captained the team at times.
“Marcel Lubik is a true homegrown talent who has developed steadily over the past few years. Whether in youth matches or in training with the first team, he has consistently shown the potential he has. His strong performances in Tychy further highlighted his qualities and gave him valuable experience at professional level. Another loan move is therefore a logical next step in his development, giving him the chance to gain regular playing time in a highly competitive environment. We wish him the best of luck and will continue to follow his progress closely,” said FC Augsburg CEO, Michael Ströll.
Marcel Lubik added: “I’m really pleased that FCA are continuing to place their trust in me and that I’ve been able to extend my contract early. That confidence means a lot and gives me extra motivation. The opportunity to play in the Polish Ekstraklasa next season is a great chance to keep developing at a high level and gain important experience. My goal is to prove myself there and come back to Augsburg stronger.”
