239 Bundesliga games for Mainz and Leverkusen

FC Augsburg have strengthened their midfield after the start of the new season with the signing of midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger. The Austria international, who has won 84 caps and played 239 times in the Bundesliga for upcoming Mainz 05 (and most recently Leverkusen), has agreed a one-year deal that will run until 30th June 2023.

“We’ve got a lot of young players with potential in our squad and we wanted to get an experienced man in our midfield, especially now Niklas Dorsch is ruled out injured for a long time. Julian will help our team both on and off the pitch with his sporting quality, his mentality, his character and his experience,” said Stefan Reuter, FCA sporting director.

“I’m really excited to play for FC Augsburg because I find the way they have established themselves in the Bundesliga over the last 11 years really impressive. I’m confident that my intense way of playing will fit the club and the team. I’m fit and ready for my new challenge here,” commented Baumgartlinger.

The 34-year-old signed his contract on Tuesday and will train immediately afterwards with the team. He will wear the number 14 at FCA and could make his debut on Saturday at home to his former club Mainz 05 (15:30 CEST).
