After Jess Thorup joined FCA to become the club’s new head coach, the Dane wanted to initially take the time to get to know his coaching team. The club have now succeeded in filling the vacant assistant coach position. Jacob Friis will begin working with FCA with immediate effect.

The 46-year-old, who, as well as his mother tongue, can also speak English, German and Spanish, has moved to FCA from his position as head coach of the Danish first-division side Viborg FF, having also successfully worked in the same role at Aalborg BK. The Dane, who holds a UEFA Pro licence, has signed a contract with FCA until 30th June 2025 and will get to work with the team for the first time this Wednesday..

Experience as a coach

“I’m thrilled that we were able to fill the assistant coach position with someone as fitting as Jacob Friis. We are convinced that Jacob will be able to implement his coaching experience at FCA to a great extent. He will be an important colleague to head coach Jess Thorup and will be a perfect addition to our coaching team on a professional and personal level,” explained FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.

“Many people will ask why I’ve left a job as head coach for an assistant position. But the FCA way, which I can 100 percent identify with, convinced me. Additionally, the prospect of working in the Bundesliga is a great opportunity and challenge for me,” Jacob Friis said as he looks forward to working with Jess Thorup and his colleagues.

“We tried to find the best solution for FCA and the team. We’ve managed that with Jacob Friis. I’m convinced that he’ll fit into our team well with his qualities and supply us with important ideas,” commented Jess Thorup on the recruitment of his countryman, whom he greatly admires even though they are yet to work together.
