After Michael Gregoritsch left the club to sign for Schalke on loan until the end of the season, Augsburg have filled the gap in their squad with the signing of Eduard Löwen. The 22-year-old midfielder has joined on a loan deal from league rivals Hertha until 30 June 2021.

Augsburg will have an option to buy Löwen as part of the deal, which is subject to a medical, due to take place at the start of the week in Augsburg. Both clubs have agreed to keep the details of the transfer undisclosed.

“We were trying to sign Eduard in the summer, so we’re glad that we’ve finally got him – even if it’s six months too late!” said Stefan Reuter, FCA sporting director. “Eduard made it clear to us that he would like to come to Augsburg if he were to leave Hertha this winter.”

“I’m thankful to all those that made this transfer possible. I think this is the best solution for everybody involved. I’m pleased that I will get another chance to prove myself in the Bundesliga. I’m looking forward to this challenge and I hope I can get into the team as soon as possible,” said Löwen, who has already left Hertha’s training camp in the US to head back to Germany.
