Daniel Caligiuri tests positive for COVID-19

Friendly vs. Greuther Fürth cancelled

First Team 28.07.2021, 09:48

FCA's Daniel Caligiuri will be out for several days after testing positive for COVID-19. The midfielder is currently quarantining at home and has not been in contact with the team since the weekend.

Although the 33-year-old, who made 33 Bundesliga appearances for FCA last season, is fully vaccinated, FCA ordered a rapid test as well as PCR test through the team doctors, after Caligiuri presented light symptoms on the weekend. Possible points of contact are currently being investigated together with the health authorities.

Following Caligiuri's positive test, the entire FCA team, coaching staff and backroom staff all underwent rapid and PCR tests. The majority of the group are already fully vaccinated and are therefore at a low risk of infection. All of these tests came back negative.

"The quick reaction from Daniel Caligirui and our team doctors shows that our hygiene and preventative measures work and that being vaccinated can prevent further infections from spreading, even if it doesn't ensure a 100% protection from infection," said Stefan Reuter, FCA sporting director.

Despite the additional tests undertaken by the team and coaching staff, today's friendly against SpVgg Greuther Fürth has been cancelled by the opponents after FCA informed them about Caligiuri and the negative tests.
