Dahmen in squad for Germany win as Saad and Gharbi both score

Successful World Cup qualifiers

First Team 11.10.2025, 09:36

Multiple FCA players were in action during the latest round of World Cup qualifying fixtures and to some aplomb. While Finn Dahmen made the bench as Germany saw off Luxembourg 4-0, Elias Saad and Ismael Gharbi fired in the goals for Tunisia.

Two FCA players went head-to-head in World Cup qualifying, with Finn Dahmen’s nation coming out on top. The Germany national team breezed past Luxembourg, winning 4-0 and leapfrogging to first place in Group A in the process. An early red card for Luxembourg meant Germany played with a man advantage for over 70 minutes. This is second time Dahmen has been called up to the senior squad, and he watched the match from the bench, while Aiman Dardari made Luxembourg’s starting line-up. Our young player was substituted in the 66th minute.

Switzerland also remain on course for the World Cup, winning 2-0 in Sweden to secure a third victory from three games and tighten their grip on top spot in Group B. FCA’s Fabian Rieder was named in the Switzerland starting XI before being brought off after just under an hour.

Tunisia run riot

Elias Saad and Ismael Gharbi formed parts of the Tunisia team that very convincingly dispatched of their qualifying group’s last-placed nation São Tomé e Príncipe. The 6-0 win marked their eighth victory from nine fixtures, scoring 19 and conceding none in the process. Saad netted the goals to make it 2-0 (39’) and then 3-0 (43’) before Gharbi bagged one for himself just after half-time for 4-0 (47’). A foul on Gharbi in the box then led to Ben Romdhane converting from the spot to increase the score to 5-0 (67’). Saad was brought off on 61 minutes while Gharbi featured until the 82nd. Tunisia has already secured qualification for the World Cup ahead of their final pair of group fixtures.

Samuel Essende and DR Congo are still in the mix for a ticket to next summer's tournament after preserving at least a mathematical chance of qualification from Group B with a 1-0 victory in Togo. Essende did not feature in Lomé.

Elvis Rexhbecaj started for Kosovo as they drew 0-0 in qualifying against Slovenia. Our midfielder was then brought off in the 50th minute. Goalless was how the match-up between Czechia and Croatia remained as well, with Kristijan Jakic playing the full 90 minutes.

Greece suffered a 3-1 loss against Scotland, although FCA left-back Dimitris Giannoulis did not make an appearance. The Germany U21s were also defeated in European Championship qualifying by Greece. After going 2-0 down, Germany fought back swiftly but ultimately ended up on the wrong side of a 3-2 score line to remain pointless and third in Group F with two fixtures played. Mert Kömür was brought on in the 77th minute.
