Jakić on target for Croatia

Another FCA player has booked their ticket for next year’s World Cup finals: Finn Dahmen’s Germany side will head to the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA, following their victory over Slovakia on Monday night.

The Germany national team have officially booked their place in next year’s World Cup finals thanks to a convincing 6-0 victory over Slovakia on the final matchday of qualifying. With 15 points, Germany left the pitch in Leipzig as the winners of Group A. Finn Dahmen was once again named on the bench and was not called upon. He is now the fourth FCA player to have booked their World Cup ticket, following in the footsteps of Elias Saad and Ismael Gharbi (both Tunisia) and Kristijan Jakić (Croatia).

Elsewhere, Jakić’s Croatia side had already qualified for next year’s tournament before stepping out onto the pitch against Montenegro, but that didn’t stop them from getting another three points on the board, thanks in part to two goal involvements from the FCA defender. Croatia went down 2-0 before Jakić was brought down in the box in the 37th minute, winning a penalty which Ivan Perišić converted. The score stayed at 2-1 until the 72nd minute, when Jakić reacted the quickest to a shot that hit the post and was able to score the equaliser - his second goal for his country. A Nikola Vlašić strike late on meant that Jakić and Croatia took all three points.

For Aiman Dardari and Luxembourg, World Cup qualifying ended without a single point. In their final game against Northern Ireland, the underdogs put in another good performance, but ultimately suffered a 1-0 defeat. Dardari started the game and was substituted in the 76th minute.
