Baum: “We want to go into the winter break on a high”

Final game of 2025

First Team 18.12.2025, 15:45

FC Augsburg host SV Werder Bremen at the WWK ARENA on matchday 15 of the Bundesliga (Saturday, 20th December, 15:30 CEST). Four days before Christmas, Manuel Baum’s side are aiming to give themselves and their fans an early present with a strong performance and some valuable points.

“It’s going to be a completely different game,” said interim head coach Manuel Baum ahead of the year’s final fixture. “Leverkusen and Frankfurt demanded a lot from us defensively. Now we want to show a different side to ourselves, as we play with more courage going forward and put together more attacks. Our objective is clear: we want to score goals and win the game.”

Werder Bremen have picked up just one point from their last four matches and currently sit 12th in the table. A victory, which would be a third straight home win, would see FCA move above the visitors. “We want to take the game to them here in front of our own fans and head into the break with three points and on a high,” Baum stressed. At the same time, he urged focus: “We need to stay true to ourselves and stick to what we’re doing.”

Matsima suspended, Kade a doubt

For the final game of the year, Baum is set to be without several players in addition to long-term absentee Jeffrey Gouweleeuw. Samuel Essende (DR Congo), Elias Saad and Ismaël Gharbi (both Tunisia) are away at the Africa Cup of Nations, while defender Chrislain Matsima is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. There is also a question mark over Anton Kade, who suffered an ankle injury in the match away to Frankfurt.
