Baum: “We need to produce a top-drawer performance”
FCA host Stuttgart
FC Augsburg will welcome a fellow Swabian side for matchday 27 as VfB Stuttgart head to Augsburg on Sunday night, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30 CET. The hosts will be looking to extend their impressive run at home, having gone unbeaten in their last eight matches at the WWK ARENA.
While Augsburg, currently 10th on 31 points, are aiming to further strengthen their home record, fourth-placed Stuttgart (50 points) will hope to stay on course for a Champions League spot. FCA head coach Manuel Baum, who earned his coaching badges alongside Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeneß, expressed his “huge respect for Stuttgart for what they’ve built over the past few years.” It’s particularly the way Stuttgart play that stands out: “They’re incredibly hard to read, a very intense side with real depth and quality across the squad.”
Baum has learnt some crucial lessons from the recent 2-0 defeat in Dortmund and is demanding a clear improvement on Sunday: “We'll need to produce a top-drawer performance if we want to give ourselves a chance. We have to earn everything the hard way in every game and prove ourselves time and again.” Despite the challenge, Baum is feeling cautiously optimistic ahead of the affair: “Stuttgart will be a real test for us. But we relish those kinds of challenges, no matter how tough they are.”
Ogundu ready to return to the squad
In terms of team news, FCA will once again be without Chrislain Matsima and Yannik Keitel (bursitis). Otherwise, Baum has a fairly full squad to choose from, with Uchenna Ogundu back available and an option to start.
