Baum: “That wasn’t what Augsburg is about”

First Team 23.02.2019, 22:52
FC Augsburg have fallen to a heavy 5-1 away defeat against SC Freiburg. Here is the post match reaction to the defeat. Gregor Kobel: “Today was a complete failure from our point of view. I don’t really know where we were today. We certainly didn’t turn up on the pitch. It could’ve easily been 5-0 or 6-0 before half-time. We started the second half a bit better and we had a couple of unfortunately moments where we could’ve scored. If they had gone in, we would’ve closed the gap and made it a tighter affair. However, we come away empty handed once more. Days like this can happen and there is no explanation for our poor performance. It doesn’t demonstrate the character we possess as a team. We will be frustrated with this result for the next couple of days before looking ahead to Friday night.” Rani Khedira: "The first half was a catastrophic performance from us. It was just bad from A to Z. At half time we took the matter into our own hands and tried everything again. That worked at points, but despite that you have to say that we were simply poor overall." Manuel Baum: “I don't know if I've ever seen such a bad half compared to today. We didn't fight for the ball and that isn’t what Augsburg is about. We were beaten in every aspect. After the break, we got back into the game a bit, but all in all it was a bad performance. I have to accept it first, because after playing so well last week against FC Bayern, I can't comprehend how bad we were today." Christian Streich:  “We knew about Augsburg’s situation and their problems regarding team selection. We wanted to take advantage of it and force them into making errors. In the second half we were clinical and managed to make it 3-1. At 4-1, we had the game under even more control and wanted to show the supporters some good football. I have to congratulate the team on today’s performance.”
