Baum: "Looking forward to our last home game"
FCA host Gladbach
FC Augsburg are set to welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach to the WWK ARENA on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). It will be the team’s final home game of the season, before their trip to the capital city to take on Union Berlin on the final matchday.
“We’re all looking forward to our last home game and want to celebrate a win together with our fans,” said head coach Manuel Baum. Following their 3-1 victory in Bremen, the Függerstädter currently find themselves in ninth place with 40 points – should they finish in this position, it would be their third-best finish in the club’s Bundesliga history.
Upcoming opponents Gladbach were able to secure their spot in the Bundesliga next season with a 1-0 win at home against Borussia Dortmund on the last matchday. “They have a lot of individual quality, are able to change their formation and have had a lot of close games of late,” said Baum, adding: “It will definitely be worth coming to watch.”
The hosts will be looking for a different outcome than earlier this season, when they lost 4-0 against the Foals. In order to do so, FCA are counting on their home form, which has seen them lose just one of their last 11 outings at the WWK ARENA. “It’s important that we get a positive result from our final home game of the season,” said Baum.
Farewells ahead of the game
The head coach shared that while there are no confirmed absences yet for this weekend, that there are doubts surrounding six players. “We will make a final decision tomorrow,” he confirmed. There will also be several farewells prior to kick-off on Saturday, with the club saying goodbye to Elvis Rexhbecaj, Daniel Klein, goalkeeping coach Marco Langner and Stefan Reuter.
The atmosphere for the match is set to be electric once again, with the WWK ARENA set to be sold out on Saturday. Ahead of the final home game of the season, the fans are calling for everyone to come to the stadium and “wear white.”
