Baum: "It was an emotional back and forth type of game"

First Team 14.12.2017, 01:03
Even though Augsburg managed to pull FCA back from a 2-0 deficit against FC Schalke 04, they couldn’t hold on and were forced to leave Gelsenkirchen with nothing to show for their efforts. “It was an emotional back and forth kind of game,” concluded Manuel Baum after the game. See all the reaction here. Marwin Hitz: “We started quite slowly today, and conceded the first goal quite cheaply. We also have to be better going forward - the more efficient team won.” Philipp Max: “It was obviously a special game for me, so I was annoyed at how slowly we started in the first half. We were lacking the passion that you need when you come to a place like this, and we created barely anything. It was a shame to concede another straight after the break, but we then showed a lot of character to fight our way back. By the end we absolutely deserved a draw. Michael Gregoritsch: “We were solid in the first half defensively, and in the second half we were much better in attack. We knew that we could come back, but it’s a shame that we just couldn’t hold on that little bit longer to earn a point.” Manuel Baum: “It was an emotional back and forth type of game. We were lacking a bit of courage in our pressing game in the first half, but our reaction to going down 2-0 was fantastic. It was a very tough pill to swallow to come away with nothing. Now we look ahead to Freiburg and getting back to winning ways.” Domenico Tedesco: “It was no spectacle from us in the first half, but we played intelligently. Our aim was to keep Augsburg in check by keeping the majority of possession. We controlled the game and should have put the game out of reach with our second goal, but Augsburg pressed us very well from that point on. We’re lucky yet proud to have been able to keep all three points against a top Bundesliga side.”
