Baum: I apologise on behalf of the team

First Team 23.09.2018, 00:17
After an impressive comeback  to draw level against Werder Bremen, FC Augsburg ultimately ended up taking nothing out of their second home match of the season. “I have rarely had this feeling after a game we unfairly lost,” said FCA head coach Manuel Baum, reflecting on a good performance from his side. Here are the thoughts of the players and coaches after today’s match: Martin Hinteregger: “We did well to draw level after falling 2-0 down. It is an extremely bitter feeling to lose a match after getting back into and feeling you simply will not lose. We will also work together to rebuild Fabian Giefer’s confidence.” Daniel Baier, who made his 300th club and 250th Bundesliga appearance today: “We scored both goals at exactly the right time and we were in control of the match after equalising. We had to take one of the clear chances that we created after drawing level. We had numerous opportunities to take the lead. As a goalkeeper, Fabian Giefer suffered from the last of a series of mistakes we made up and down the pitch. I do not want to list the amount of mistakes I made today. We now need to come together as a squad and make things better against Bayern on Tuesday.” Rani Khedira: “At our club annual general meeting this week, our club president said that we win together and lose together. We feel especially bad for Fabian Giefer, however what happened today will only help our team cohesion going into future matches.” Manuel Baum: “I think we delivered a very good home performance over the course of the 90 minutes and we didn’t allow Bremen to dictate the match hardly at all. Two mistakes led to us conceding two goals but we didn’t let our heads drop, creating chance after chance and then equalising and getting back on level terms. On behalf of the team, I am extremely sorry that we once again couldn’t take anything away from today’s match due to individual errors. Bremen have no idea how they secured all three points here today. I have nothing to complain about regarding the team. I’ve never had this feeling after a game we unfairly lost.” Werder Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt: “It was an exciting match in which we benefited from a bit of luck and we went on to won. There were many chances for both teams to score as well as some strange moments and we were the lucky team who eventually won. At home, FC Augsburg played incredibly well with a lot of intensity and I know the feeling they are in very well. I know how it feels to finish a game like this with nothing to show for your efforts.”
