Baum: “Disappointing to only come away with a point”
The reaction to the 2-2 draw against Freiburg
Just as they did against Union Berlin on Thursday afternoon (1-1), FC Augsburg came away with a point in front of their own fans. FCA drew 2-2 with SC Freiburg at the WWK ARENA on Sunday. Read all the reaction to the match here.
Noahkai Banks: “In the second half, we had a passage of play where we played really well. That’s why the final scoreline is even more disappointing. After the winter break, we haven’t been consistent enough with our aggressive style, but today we showed once again that we can put it into practice. We want to build on this and carry on in this vein.”
Alexis Claude-Maurice: “I’m happy with the goal, even though it was a bit lucky. The game reminded me a bit of the game against Union – we can’t stop playing in those moments. Anyone can see that we’re continuing to develop and playing some really good football.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “We still don’t really know where to start with the draw. It was an improvement on Thursday’s performance. Set pieces are Freiburg’s main strength, but we still shouldn’t let the game slip like that. It’s a real shame, but we’ll look at the bright side. Now, we’ve got the toughest game of the season against Bayern. They’re in top form. But we’re still going there to get something.”
Elvis Rexhbecaj: „Just like against Union Berlin, we’ve lost two points. We took the lead and let the game slip again – it’s really tough to stomach. Now, we’ve got to keep working hard and strive towards ensuring that games like these don’t slip from our grasp. Of course, scoring another Bundesliga goal feels good, but it would have been even better if we’d have won.”
Manuel Baum (Trainer FC Augsburg): “We had to face up to a few challenges at the beginning of the game – in particular, the long balls weren’t easy to defend. As a result, we had to adapt, and after that we grew into the game, started to play with freedom, and found a nice balance of creativity and clear tactics. In the second half, we started really brightly. It makes it even more frustrating that we conceded twice from set pieces. At the end of the day, it’s disappointing to only come away with a point. Still, it was a much-improved performance compared to the match against Union.”
Julian Schuster (Trainer SC Freiburg): “The first half was fairly even, though we lacked the precision you need to be a real goal threat. That’s why our start to the second 45 was even more frustrating – it was far too easy, and Augsburg put us to the sword. Our reaction to that was impressive. We were back in the game after two set pieces. Scoring goals here isn’t easy. Doing that after going 2-0 behind is a positive sign for us. We’ll take it. When all is said and done, it’s an important point for us.”
