Baum: “Disappointed with the result”
Match reaction following 1-0 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt
FC Augsburg were unlucky to be left empty-handed after a solid performance away at Eintracht Frankfurt. Read on for the post-match reaction from both camps.
Finn Dahmen: “It just didn’t go our way. Both VAR checks on our goals took a long time and the way we conceded was also unlucky. It’s frustrating that we weren’t able to be rewarded for what was a very solid performance.”
Noahkai Banks: “First and foremost, we’re very disappointed. We put in a solid performance on the road, got stuck into every tackle and did exactly what we had set out to do. On top of that, we scored two goals that were then chalked off by the tightest of margins, before conceding from a deflection. We just weren’t lucky enough and it’s tough to take right now.”
Fabian Rieder: “The result is disappointing because, in the end, we’re left with zero points despite scoring twice. I think that we did a good job of implementing our game plan – Frankfurt are a good team, but they didn’t have many clear-cut chances. We could have been a bit more precise in certain situations, but that’s something we’ll continue to work on and we’ll keep improving with every game.”
Kristijan Jakic: “It’s always tough to play away in Frankfurt, but we still managed to do a good job today. It obviously doesn’t feel good to be stood here empty-handed. But, we’re on the right path and everyone here supports each other. The most important thing now is that we get the three points at home against Bremen, so that we’re able to head into the winter break on a positive note.”
Manuel Baum, FC Augsburg interim head coach: “It felt like several of the 50/50 decisions today ended up going Frankfurt’s way, such as both our offside goals, for example. We had several opportunities to stop Ritsu Doan before his shot was then deflected in. As a result, we’re disappointed with the result, as we put in a solid performance. We now have a week’s time to prepare ourselves for Bremen.”
Dino Toppmöller, Eintracht Frankfurt head coach: “It was a tough match, in which some decisions definitely did go our way. In the end, however, I think we deserved the win. You could see that the lads were lacking a bit of freshness after some intense weeks, but they still gave it everything they had. It was a hard-fought victory in every sense, which also applies to the goal we scored. However, we do know that we’re capable of being better.”
