Baum: “Bayern deserved to win today”

First Team 18.11.2017, 19:44
Despite an evenly matched opening to the game, FC Augsburg are leaving Munich empty handed after suffering a 3-0 defeat. A few errors were decisive for Manuel Baum’s side: “The first two goals came as a result of us giving the ball away.” Rani Khedira: “The first goal was unlucky, but the second was our fault entirely. If you go down by two against FC Bayern, they show their quality and things get even harder for you. You have to say unfortunately that we’re the ones to blame for our own fate today, because we made too many avoidable errors.” Philipp Max: “We should have done better in a few instances and made more of some good chances. Unfortunately we just couldn’t do that. Bayern showed today that they have some world class players. It was a better performance on the whole than the one we put in last season, but at the end of the day we’re going back home without any points once again. Alfred Finnbogason: “We started well, although we then committed a few errors which Bayern made us pay for immediately. After doing that, it’s really hard to get back into the game. When they scored their third shortly after the break, the game was essentially decided.” Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “It’s clear that you can’t stop all the chances that a world class team like Bayern creates. We have to quickly move on from this one and turn our attention to the home game against Wolfsburg.” Daniel Baier: “After going down by two before the break, we wanted to try everything we could in the second half. We didn’t want to give up. But if you want to win here, you can’t concede goals like the first two that we did.” Manuel Baum: “We started the game well and didn’t allow much, so it’s obviously very frustrating to concede two goals as the result of giving the ball away cheaply. We obviously expected more from ourselves going forward. We pushed as much as we could in the second half, but it’s really hard to get anything from the game when you go down by three. At the end of the day Bayern deserved to win.” Jupp Heynckes: “We found it hard at the beginning, because FCA played with a very good structure. We dealt with it well though and focused hard on breaking them down. With the first goal in the bag it definitely became easier for us, which the second goal proved. We showed our class after that and kept the ball well. Overall, it was a great effort from my team.”
