Baum: “A brilliant 90-minute performance”

First Team 01.09.2018, 20:50
After an intense fixture, FC Augsburg can be satisfied with a draw against a strong Borussia Mönchengladbach side. “At the end of the day, we were the more dangerous side, but we’ll certainly take a point”, said Manuel Baum after the game. André Hahn: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back in this jersey, in this stadium and in front of these fans. We gave a really good performance today, put in a good shift and took the lead. We do need to make the most of counter opportunities in the future to get results, however. We lost a bit of energy in the last 30 minutes. A win would have been amazing, but we’ll take the point.” Philipp Max: “We had a really good game and started well. We showed a lot of mettle and desire. We took the lead at the perfect time, but didn’t capitalise on our other chances. I think we deserved to win.” Martin Hinteregger: “We had a great game today and threw everything we had at Gladbach. We should have made it 2-0 given the chances we created. All in all, it’s a bit of a shame not to have won, but we can be very happy with four points from two games.” Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We should have won, but also could well have lost. It was such a close game at the end. We began strongly and held our own against a strong opponent. A draw is a decent result, all things considered. Manuel Baum: “It was a brilliant 90-minute performance and a brilliant game for any football fan. Gladbach had a great chance to take the lead within seconds, but we managed to clear our lines. Aside from that, we had the best opportunities. At the end of the day, we were the more dangerous side, but we’ll certainly take a point. If you’d offered us four points from two games before the start of the season, I’d have taken it without a moment’s hesitation.” Dieter Hecking: “Both teams played with a lot of freedom. I would have liked to see us take that chance early on, as Augsburg then came into the game a lot more and didn’t give us an inch across the pitch. After the break, we changed things up and it didn’t go well for us. Augsburg had the chance to take the game away from us, but failed to do so. I’m pleased we subsequently managed to play ourselves back into the match and get the equaliser.”
