After their best ever victory in the Bundesliga last weekend against VfB Stuttgart, FC Augsburg will now face Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Friday 26th April (20:30 CEST) at home. Captain Daniel Baier spoke in an interview ahead of matchday 31 about… …the 6-0 victory over Stuttgart: “It was an extraordinary game that will long remain in our memory as it was our best result in Bundesliga history. Nevertheless, it is already in the past and we have to keep moving forward. There are still things we can improve on before our game against Leverkusen but we can definitely take confidence from the 6-0.” … the end of season spurt: “We have some interesting games coming up. Now we face Leverkusen and then Schalke, which will also be about avoiding the drop. Then we have our last home game of the season and we want to get as many points as possible. We want our fans to celebrate more victories before the end of the season.” … the next task: “On Friday we want to make another statement and record another win. We have a great league position now and want to use that to put some distance between ourselves and the relegation places. We also know that in Leverkusen we are up against an incredibly strong opponent, who have their own goals in achieving European places - It will be a very difficult game. We have never won yet against Leverkusen; we want to finally change that.” … the new head coach: “Martin Schmidt’s first team talk really resonated, and everyone was motivated and believed that we could win in Frankfurt. From the very first day he had that effect, but he also brings us back down to Earth after the game, and ensures that we go into each match in the right mindset.” … Marco Richter: “He has already shown in recent years that he has incredible potential and has fulfilled it in the last two games. He is a true Augsburg player and a role model for the youngsters at the club. It makes me happy that he has been scoring and getting assists.”
