Austria youth international Florian Hangl is staying at FCA

Florian Hangl, an Austria youth international, is the latest FC Augsburg youngster to sign a new contract. The attacking midfielder has agreed a deal valid until 2029.
Hangl, who was previously on the books at Wolfsberger AC, signed for FCA in the 2022/23 season. He played all 26 competitive games for Augsburg’s U17s in the 2023/24 campaign, scoring 10 goals. The Klagenfurt-born midfielder was then a regular for the club’s U19s last season, featuring in 24 of a possible 26 matches. His contribution of five goals and four assists helped the U19s finish their youth league in first place and qualify for the DFB-Pokal.
Hangl also has experience at the international level, winning 25 caps for various Austria youth sides, most recently their U18s. Together with FCA teammates Mauro Hämmerle and Oliver Sorg, he took part in the U17 European Championship in 2024 and made the quarter-finals.
Pre-season with the club’s U23 side
Although Hangl, born in 2007, is still eligible to play for FC Augsburg’s U19s, the plan is for him to now experience adult football. As a result, he will train with the U23s in pre-season.
“Florian has developed very well with us both on and off the pitch over the past years. As a key player, and with his goals and assists, he’s contributed to the good performance of our teams. In order for him to continue this development, we want to support him with targeted measures. We’re excited to accompany him on his further career path,” said Michael Ströll, CEO of FC Augsburg.
Florian Hangl added: "I’m very happy about my contract extension with FCA. When I joined, I consciously decided to be part of the Paul-Renz-Akademie. That’s why I’m even prouder to still have the opportunity to work my way step by step towards the first team here. My big dream is to one day play in the Bundesliga for FCA."
