Academy product Franz Xaver Bleicher signs professional contract
At the club since the age of nine
Franz Xaver Bleicher has put pen to paper on a professional contract at FC Augsburg until 30th June 2030. The 18-year-old midfielder has been at the club since he was nine years old.
Bleicher, who has featured several times for Germany at youth level, is not only just a native of Augsburg, but was born into a family with strong connections to the club. His father used to play for FCA back in the day. This season, the 18-year-old was brought into the club's U23s side, having already featured 11 times for the reserves last season. He has already been able to gain an insight into professional football through taking part in several training sessions and friendlies.
"In Franz Xaver Bleicher, we have been able to retain another young talent from our academy. As a native of Augsburg, he has strong roots in our club and has already been able to feature many times for Germany at youth level. The plan is for him to continue his development with our U23s in order to ease him into professional football," said FCA sporting director Benni Weber.
Bleicher is also looking forward to remaining at his hometown club: "FC Augsburg have always been my club – I grew up here and this is my home. I'm very thankful to FCA for the trust they have shown in me. I know that there's still a lot of work that lies ahead of me, but I believe in myself and that I will one day be able to represent FCA at the WWK ARENA."
