A dynamic winger: Kade in focus

Happy memories at the WWK ARENA

First Team 26.08.2025, 14:00

In Anton Kade, FC Augsburg have added a versatile winger to the squad, someone who will look to boost their attack with his dynamism. Despite his young age, the 21-year-old can already look back on what has been an interesting career.

Anton Kade is no stranger to the WWK ARENA, having played there for Hertha BSC in the first leg of the German U19 Championship semi-finals in front of roughly 9,000 spectators. In Hertha’s 3-1 victory, he scored the crucial goal to make it 2-1 as Hertha advanced to the final, while the FCA youth team was eliminated. Due to injury, Kade missed the final and could only watch the narrow 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund from the sidelines.

Kade’s footballing journey began with Sportfreunde Kladow in south-west Berlin, before he joined the Hertha BSC academy in 2012. In January 2022, shortly before his 18th birthday, he received his first call-up to the senior team from boss Tayfun Korkut. Not long after, the 1.85m-tall winger celebrated his Bundesliga debut after coming on as a sub in the 6-1 defeat to Leipzig. He made four cameo appearances in total that season, for both Korkut and interim coach Felix Magath, who ultimately managed to save Hertha from relegation.

League and cup winner with Basel

In the 2022/23 season, Kade made a move abroad to join FC Basel. There, he quickly became a regular face on the team sheet, gained valuable international experience and played an impressive 107 competitive games for the Swiss side. Last season, he celebrated both becoming champion of the Swiss top flight, as well as lifting the Swiss Cup. In his 36 appearances, he scored four goals and provided another four assists. This success at club level earned him the chance to gain more experience with Germany’s national youth teams.

The 2021 Fritz Walter Bronze Medal winner is defined, above all else, by his versatility: he can play on either flank, as well as being comfortable operating through the middle. His strengths include his pace and explosive acceleration, his close control, and his precise finishing. Football runs in his family, with his older brother Julius (FC Emmen) having had stints with clubs such as Hertha BSC, Union Berlin, Dynamo Dresden and Wehen Wiesbaden.

Return to Germany

For Anton Kade, the move to Augsburg marks a return to Germany. “My time in Basel was a valuable experience, but now I see FCA as the perfect place for me to continue my development,” said Kade. The 21-year-old has signed a long-term contract that runs until 2029 and is currently looking for a new home for him and his wife in Augsburg – ideally with a garden for their dog.

Kade will wear the number 30 shirt at FCA, and his first real highlight in his new kit is fast approaching: On Saturday, FC Augsburg will host record champions FC Bayern München in the WWK ARENA – a place where the 21-year-old already has one goal under his belt.
