Weinzierl: “We always believed!”

Reaction to the point won in Berlin

FC Augsburg secured a precious away point thanks to a late Michael Gregoritsch equaliser against Hertha BSC. His 97th- minute header rescued something from the game for Augsburg, and here is the reaction to the match.

Arne Maier: “We played well and absolutely deserved the point. It was tough to concede the opening goal, but we gave it our all after going behind and got our reward because we’d kept going until the very end.”

Andre Hahn: “It’s such a great feeling to equalise with the last kick of the game. We were the better team, had some good chances which we unfortunately squandered. After we unluckily went one down, we said that we would get back into this together, which says a lot about our team and spirit. With willingness, heart, passion and belief, we got a late equaliser. And when you think about all the players we had missing, it’s definitely a step in the right direction.”

Mads Pedersen: “That’s football. Games like that is the reason I get out of bed every morning. Football’s all about fighting until the end. We believed in ourselves and that’s why we got back a deserved point. It was so important that we didn’t just relax after the victory over Bayern.”

Michael Gregoritsch: “We played with two very young lads in central defence who had never played together before. We only went behind because of an individual error, but that’s the beauty of being part of a team: we can make up for individual mistakes together, and we managed to do that today. You could see just how much we wanted to push on after last week’s win over Bayern. I view the goal personally as a reward for all my hard work in the last few weeks. I’ve waited a long time for this goal and it’s always great to get the equaliser in the dying seconds of the game.”

Markus Weinzierl: “When you score in the last second to equalise, it’s always a nice feeling. It was absolutely deserved, though, because we had put in a good away performance and the result is reflective of the performances of both teams. We needed to find a replacement for four central defenders, so we gave Frederik Winther his Bundesliga debut and shifted Robert Gumny in the centre of the back line. We showed our ability to fight against adversity, got forward well and we always believed. The way we performed will give us confidence for the coming weeks.”

Pal Dardai: “We had a lot of possession in the first half and created a couple of chances. But Augsburg also had some good opportunities. Then we took the lead shortly before half time, but after the break Augsburg got stuck in and we weren’t able to find a second. When your opponent is still giving it their all in the last few minutes of the game, then they’re always going to deserve any goal they may get late on. We need to work hard so we can close out games like this.”
