Wagner: “Important to draw the right lessons”
FCA away to Heidenheim
On matchday 5 of the Bundesliga season, FC Augsburg travel to 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). Following the defeat against Mainz, head coach Sandro Wagner is focused on moving forward.
“It’s important to draw the right lessons from defeats,” Wagner emphasised. As usual, the squad used the week to thoroughly analyse the last game, while training sessions were also positive. That gives Wagner confidence ahead of the upcoming clash: “We’ve taken a lot from it as a group – and we want to show that in Heidenheim.”
Although Heidenheim are still without a point and sit bottom of the table, FCA expect a tough challenge at the Voith-Arena. “It’s never easy to get a result there, but we’ll throw everything at it and we want to win the game,” said Wagner. The head coach is preparing for a competitive match: “Heidenheim’s games so far have all been tight. We certainly won’t be facing a team lacking confidence – but the same goes for us.”
FCA without captain Gouweleeuw
Augsburg will be without Jeffrey Gouweleeuw on Saturday after the captain suffered a medial ligament tear. “It’s tough – Jeff is our leader on and off the pitch. But we’ve got plenty of strong players at the back,” Wagner commented. Aside from the injured skipper, almost the entire squad is available, giving the coaching staff a wide range of options.
More than 2,000 FCA fans will be cheering on the team in Heidenheim.
