There’s one game left to play before we head into the final international break of the year, with FCA making the trip to Stuttgart on Sunday (17:30 CET). Sandro Wagner expects an intense game against the fourth-placed side.

FC Augsburg have had a long week of training – it will have been ten days since the narrow 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund by the time they take to the pitch on Sunday. Head coach Sandro Wagner has drawn positives from that game, despite the setback: “Of course, points are football’s currency, but we did a lot right that game which we can use as a starting point to build from. We’re doing just that.” The focus now shifts to the trip to Stuttgart: “The lads are working hard and putting in the hours – we haven’t rewarded ourselves for that often enough. That’s why our focus this week has mainly been on our finishing.”

Wagner wants to be prepared for whatever Stuttgart throw at his side: “It’ll be an intense game and we need to push ourselves to the limit. We are going there with the intention of getting something out of the game.” Since Stuttgart are still to play in the Europa League on Thursday, Wagner expects that they will rotate their squad for the weekend: “Stuttgart have so much quality even when they completely change their starting XI. We’ve spoken to the lads a lot and want them to be prepared for every possible situation.”

Everyone available

Wagner will have a full squad to choose from this weekend: “Jeffrey Gouweleeuw is back in full training, meaning everyone is available. That’s obviously brilliant and doesn’t happen too often.” The 37-year-old can also count on the support from the 1,594 FCA fans expected to make the journey to Stuttgart on Sunday.
