Post-match reaction from Union away

FC Augsburg drew 2-2 away to Union Berlin on Wednesday evening thanks to two goals from Florian Niederlechner. Read on for the post-match reaction!

Florian Niederlechner: “Union seem to be a good opponent for us. We know how tough it is to get something here, so we’re happy with the point. Union put a lot pressure on towards the end of the game, but we still deserved the point.”

Rafał Gikiewicz: “Union got an early Christmas present from me – the first goal was all my fault. I’m happy that the lads got a point for us today. We dealt with both the goals we conceded and the injuries really well.”

Ermedin Demirović: “This was a really important point. We wanted to win, but are happy enough with a draw. We always believed in ourselves and our togetherness helped us come from behind twice in the first half. We weren’t at our best after the break, so a point is a fair enough.”

Ruben Vargas: “Union had a few more chances today, but we were more clinical with ours. Our hard work and fight earned us a point. We had to make two early changes, but the lads that came off the bench settled into the game really quickly and played well. We now want to finish the year off with a win over Bochum.”

Enrico Maaßen: “We are really pleased with this point. We came back from two setbacks and showed great spirit. We fought hard at the end to hold onto the point and had a bit of luck on our side, which we haven’t had recently. It was a crazy game, as it often is with us. I have to say that Union’s tackling is really impressive.”

Urs Fischer: “My team showed a good reaction to the defeat in Leverkusen. We had a number of chances to take the lead again, but couldn’t get the win in the end. The first half was even, we then dominated the second half. Ultimately, we have to settle for a point.”
