Uduokhai: “We need to get into a good rhythm”

After the defeat away to SV Werder Bremen (3-2), the Bundesliga is taking a two week break. Felix Uduokhai sees this as valuable time for FCA to find the right rhythm for the next set of matches. A first Augsburg game, a place in the starting line up and a total of five goals – the Bremen match was really something special for new signing Felix Uduokhai. “The start to the season has obviously not been great. But now we have almost two weeks without league games to get into a good rhythm.” In addition to his talents as a left-footed central defender, he also wants to help the team in terms of mentality. “Of course, you have a certain responsibility as a defender, but what you show on the pitch is more important than any specific role.” Communication is a deciding factor Even though the team succeeded in putting up a convincing fight against Bremen, there were occasional lapses in communication. “We noticed some things in the game against Bremen. We have to look at certain points with the whole back line and then discuss exactly how everyone saw it.” For example, he speaks to Stephan Lichtsteiner about even the small details, which can make a big difference because, according to him, communication is “absolutely essential. As a young player, you can obviously learn a lot from experienced players like Stephan, not least about professionalism and mentality,” says Uduokhai about his teammate. Stability and the game ahead However, it’s not just the defence that needs to work on communication. “We want to move forward with the ball quickly once we win possession. But that needs composure, a lot of practice and ultimately a lot of time. FCA now have time to make sure they get their first win from the next game at home against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, 14th September (15:30 CEST).
